The photographer's notes state: 'The backs of the houses on W. side High Street & river Cray. Nos 40 (left), 44, 42 & 46 from across the river Cray. This section of the river is between Williams Place on south and the paper mills by the parish church to the north. The back brick extension belongs to No 44'.
