The steam ship SS Carisbrook Castle was built in 1898 (the year of this photograph) by Donald Currie & Company and sailed as a passenger and private mail service between Southampton and South Africa. She was scrapped in 1922 after serving as a hospital ship during the First World War. The Bedford Lemere daybook records Wyllie and Lockhead as decorators and mention Broadwoods pianos in the 'notes' field.
