The shipyard was founded by J&G Thomson, an engineering and shipbuilding company, who when faced with the compulsory purchase of their original shipyard in Glasgow moved the business to the then rural spot which became Clydebank. J&G Thomson were taken over by the Sheffield based firm, John Brown & Company in 1899. '16541 - rejected' is written on the negative label for this image.
