Banstead Wood House was built 1884-1890 by the architect Richard Norman Shaw for the Garton family. It was extensively damaged by fire in 1939, and the remains of the house were incorporated into the Princess (later Queen) Elizabeth Hospital for Children, designed by the architect H Goodhard-Rendel. The photograph was taken for J Garton.
