The New Theatre was built in 1903 by the actor/manager Sir Charles Wyndham on land left over after he built Wyndham's Theatre, with which it stands back to back, separated only by St Martin's Court. Wyndham employed W G R Sprague as the architect and the New Theatre, or the Albery as it became in 1973, was his thirteenth theatre. The Bedford Lemere daybook records that this photograph was taking for Warings, who were cabinet makers known for their fine furniture.
