Erected in 1906-8, this shop and showroom for the eminent silversmiths and cutlers Mappin and Webb was designed by J J Joass of the architectural firm Belcher and Joass and is an early example of a steel-framed building. The Bedford Lemere daybook records that the photograph was commissioned by John Belcher, of Belcher and Joass.
