The National Museum of Wales was founded in 1907, although construction of a new building to house its collections did not begin until 1912, finally opening in 1927. The Bedford Lemere daybook records the architect of this unsuccessful design as E R Robson. Arnold Dunbar Smith and Cecil Brewer were the architects responsible for the museum as built.
