RMS Llandovery Castle was built for the Union Castle Line just prior to the outbreak of the First World War. During the war she served as a Canadian hospital ship (HMHS Llandovery Castle) until she was torpedoed by a German U-boat off Ireland in June 1918 with the loss of 234 lives.
