Majestic began life as SS Bismarck, and was intended to join the Germany HAPAG Line. However, at the end of World War I she was given to Britain under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. This photograph was commissioned by White Star Line, who purchased the ship jointly with Cunard Lines following the German handover.
