Description

The Butcher's Almshouses, built in 1922, were designed by W H Ansel, architect. The almshouses were built in blocks around a quadrangle with the ground floor flats having a veranda and the first floor flats having a balcony overlooking it. The estate included a hall, committee room, laundry and a block of baths for men and women. The photograph is part of a set taken for the architect with some of them also appearing in Architectural Review, Vol. LII. Jul-Dec 1922.
