The RMS Empress of Australia was built between 1913-1919 for the Hamburg America Line. She was seized as war reparation in 1919 and sold to Canadian Pacific Steamships. This photograph, taken for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, shows the Empress of Australia following a re-fit begun in 1926. On June 25th 1927 she undertook her first voyage after refurbishment, crossing the Atlantic from Southampton to Quebec City. Amongst the passengers were the Prince of Wales, Prince George, Duke of Kent and Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin.
