The SS George Washington was built for Norddeutscher Lloyd and was launched in 1908. During the First World War the ship was seized by the United States Government and by the date of this photograph was a passenger ship operated by United States Lines, sailing between New York and Europe. The photograph is part of a set commissioned by United States Lines.
