The Bedford Lemere ships register records that this series of photographs was taken whilst the Aquitania was docked at Southampton in March or April 1928 (the daybook states 2nd of April, the ships register states March), and that the series was commissioned by the Cunard Steamship Company, the owners of the liner. RMS Aquitania was launched on 21st April 1913 and undertook her maiden voyage to New York in May 1914, a month before the outbreak of the First World War. After military service in both World Wars, she was scrapped in 1950.
