Description

This was the winning entry in a competition to design a new civic centre for Croydon Council. The centre was to be built on land known as Fairfield Yard, to the north-east of the town hall gardens. However the architects, F W Halfhide and R J O'Donoghue, were never commissioned. Robert Atkinson was appointed instead, although the outbreak of the Second World War interrupted plans. Croydon Technical College was later built on the land and new council offices were constructed in the 1960s.
