Description

The house dates from the late 16th century but was remodelled in the 1780s. It was built for Sir Edward Phelips and occupied by the family until the end of the 19th century. In 1931 the property was purchased by the philanthropist Ernest Cook (1865-1955) who presented it to the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) who then transferred it to the National Trust.
