Description

Kingswear Castle was built in the 1490s as an artillery fort and, along with Dartmouth Castle, was used to protect Dartmouth Harbour from French attack. During the Victorian era it was converted into a summer residence by businessman and politician Charles Seale Hayne (1833-1903).
