Description

The inscription on the plaque reads 'Royal Hospital Haslar Burial Ground. In Memoriam. From 1753 until 1826 the area beyond this wall, known as the Paddock, was used as a burial ground to lay to rest many thousands of sick and wounded who ended their days in Haslar Hospital. Amongst those interred here are soldiers and sailors who gave their lives for their country during the turbulent days of Trafalgar, Corunna and Waterloo. They lie side by side, Hammocks their shrouds and coffins, brothers in arms in death as in life. This plaque was unveiled by Admiral Sir Alan West GCB, DSC, ADC, First Sea Lord, 10 June 2005'
