Description

Rubbish gathered by Shoreditch Borough's refuse collectors was burned in the Borough's power station in Hoxton Market. This generated steam to heat the public baths and turbines which generated electricity for the Borough's street lighting programme. This symbol of the Borough's progressive policies led to the adoption of the Borough Motto: More Light, More Power. It was displayed alongside the creature of two bodies with one head, taken from the arms of the medieval lord of the manor. (Taken from www.shoreditchtownhall.org.uk)
