The inscription reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THEIR SON JOHN WILLIAM BRIGGS / THIS BUILDING IS ERECTED BY JOSEPH AND MARY CAWTHRA OF HORTON HALL / BRADFORD AND PRESENTED BY THEM TO THE TRUSTEES OF ST CATHERINE'S HOME".
