Description

This is drawing L33/286 f.71 CLOPHILL. The original item is held by BLARS (Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Records Service). Apply to Lord Lucas for permission to reproduce. Photographer's note: ' 'The Mannor of Clophill in the County of Bedford beginning with the North-East and North-West parts of the sd Mannor'. (Edward Laurence, surveyor). Ink and water- colour (grey and yellow) on paper, backed with paper, and all folds reinforced with additional strips of paper. Folded. Cartouche with scrollwork surround. Compass indicator. Scale indicator in the form of compasses. Edged on four sides with pairs of parallel lined in red. Inset 'table of references for the freeholders and copyholders in this Mannor' (17 names), with note that references for the tenants are expressed in the Terrier and Abstract. Details of a later summary added in pencil, c.1795. Shows open field land in North Field, Tile Kiln Field, and Haw Field, and some enclosures including Pidley Wood. Field names and acreages given. Miniature elevations of buildings in orchard and in yard near Tile Kiln Close. Marked j 1719'.
