Description

Originally founded in 1856 Lewis’s Department Store was rebuilt in 1886 following a fire and again in 1947 after suffering bomb damage during the Second World War. It was refurbished in 1957 and the fifth floor equipped with a self-service cafeteria with tiles and light fixtures influenced by the Festival of Britain. The company went into liquidation in 2007 and part of the building was taken over by Adagio Aparthotel, opening in 2013 and preserving many of the interior features.
