Description

Erected in 1968 on the site of Durham County Police Headquarters and listed in 2003. The police headquarters were demolished in 2017 to make way for a housing estate and the mast was dismantled with a condition of the planning permission that it would be re-erected. The pieces of the dismantled structure were stored outside the new police headquarters south of the original site whilst Durham Police applied for permission for its permanent demolition due to damage suffered in its dismantling and budget constraints prohibiting its re-erection and ongoing maintenance. The Twentieth Century Society and and City of Durham Trust have opposed the proposed demolition.
