Description

A brewhouse was established on the site in 1666 by Thomas Bucknall and acquired by Joseph Truman in 1679. By 1840 the brewery complex covered an area of six acres. In March 1972 Arup associates were commissioned to undertake a major redevelopment of part of the site, building new offices and workshop facilities between the grade II* listed, The Directors' House and grade II listed Brewmaster's House. The brewery closed in 1988 and the buildings have been repurposed as office, retail and leisure facilities, artists' studios and exhibition space.
