Description

Photographer's note: 'Two batteries, each with 66 coke ovens and a stack, designed and constructed 1982-1984 by Otto Simon Carves, with an output in excess of 24000 tonnes of coke per week. Coal is carbonised in the ovens for 18 hours at a temperature of 1300 degrees centigrade to rid the coal of gasses and impurities to produce a dry blast furnace burden resistant to breaking down in the furnace burden.'
