Description

The memorial garden was created to commemorate the crew of the Solomon Browne lifeboat, who lost their lives during the attempted rescue of the Union Star in hurricane conditions on the 19th December 1981. Known as the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster, this was the last time the RNLI lost an entire crew in action.
