Description

Photographer's note: 'a Victorian silver trophy comprising cup and cover with figure of Neptune above a gadrooned cover and with the Royal Coat of Arms in Laurel wreath. On baluster stem with ropework handles, ebonised wooden base 'Regatta, Cowes 1867'. Silver on an ebonised wood base, made by Garrard. Inscribed ‘The Gift of Her Majesty the Queen, Royal Yacht Squadron Regatta, Cowes 1867’. This trophy was won by Charles Sabine Thellusson'’s yacht Aline in 1867 (after the house had been built). It has a figure of Neptune on the cover, a royal coat of arms on the front and handles cast as ropes. Created by Garrard, Robert, 1867. 90008394. 62cm tall.'
