Description

The land between Drift Road and Park Lane was bought by Jacob Berg in 1920, and became known as the Park Estate, later East Beach. The area is home to a number of former railway carriages converted into holiday accommodation in the early 20th century. Some survive, retaining the original core structures of the railway carriages, whilst others have been replaced by modern sea-front homes. 'Figaro' was built as a baggage car with 24 seats, in 1892 in New York. The carriage was rebuilt in 1920, withdrawn from service in 1930, and was moved to East Beach for conversion into a home.
