Description

The following two statements are written of the reverse of the drawing:

'Savoy Place, Occidental Tavern (formerly ‘Coal Hole’), and back of Simpson’s Cigar Divan’

‘Savoy Buildings, Strand, formerly (until 1883) Fountain Court from an old tavern ‘The Fountain’ was replaced by “Simpson’s”. The projecting house on the right was “Occidental Tavern” formerly the “Coal Hole”. William Blake lived in this Court from 1820 till his death in 1827.’
