Description

The buildings on the motte include the recently built Great Tower, the Great Hall and the kitchens, lodging ranges for the lord and his family, and probably a small private chapel. Over the bridge in the walled outer bailey was the castle farm, accommodation for the lord's soldiers and servants, a bakehouse, a brewhouse, and some stables and stores.

This illustration was commissioned as part of the new site interpretation material as part of the English Heritage Free Sites Project.
