Description

The illustration is reproduced as colour plate 5 in the 1993 English Heritage Book of Ironbridge Gorge by Catherine Clark.

The Bedlam Furnaces were built by the Madeley Wood Company in 1756 - 1757. In the 19th century one furnace continued to be used as a brick kiln but the rest of the site was abandoned during the 1840s.
