Description

Guthrum's Danish fleet foundered during a storm and various versions of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle record that as many as 120 ships were lost, although it is unclear whether the pursuing Anglo-Saxon ships were caught in the same storm. This illustration was reproduced on page 53 of the publication 'England's Shipwreck Heritage: From Logboats to U-Boats', by Serena Cant, published in 2013 by English Heritage.
