Description

The illustration is reproduced as Figure B on page 131 of ‘Exmoor: The Making of an English Upland’ by Mary Siraut (2009).

See IC286/004 for an illustration of the farm in winter.

Due to the severe winters and wet summers of Exmoor the seasonal movement of animals was necessary for farmers in the area. This resulted in a distinctive type of farmyard on Exmoor as farm buildings had to be adaptable for a variety of purposes throughout the year.
