6/94 Lock No. 52 and towpath bridge (end of Bridge Street)

Lock and towpath bridge. Between 1794 and 1804. William Jessop, engineer. Dressed stone with random stone to bridge parapet walls. The upper gates have been fully overhauled, the lower are no longer in existence only the recess remains. Many of the heavy stones of the retaining walls have letters inscribed in their faces. the bridge, the parapet walls of which appear to be largely rebuilt, has a segmental arch.
