SD 91 SW ROCHDALE WEST STREET (east side) 7/119 E. Pitio - Plastics G.V. II

Baptist chapel, now warehouse. 1833. Brick with stone dressings and slate roof. Galleried hall with west entrance and a small chancel. Front elevation has two storeys and three bays, the central one being slightly recessed. Doric portico in antis with two fluted columns rising from a 5- step approach. All windows have stone architraves and marginal glazing bars, the ground floor ones having square head with lugged architraves, the first floor having pilasters and a cornice. The eaves cornice is heavy and projects considerably, with blocking course. The 6-bay side elevation has stone sills and flat brick arches to ground floor, semi-circular to first floor. Key motif brickwork decoration to chancel. Most internal fittings are absent but the gallery remains, supported on cast iron columns, as does the coffered plaster ceiling. The chancel arch is flanked by giant coupled pilasters and has a panelled soffit.
