SD 81 SW HEYWOOD BIRTLE ROAD -

5/8 No. 1 (Old Birtle) 15.12.1967 II

Farmhouse. 1671 on bressumer beam corbel. Coursed rubble with stone dressings and stone slate roof. 2-unit plan has door opening into house-part on right with outshut to rear and heated parlour to left. Elevation: 2 storeys with 4- light window, door, 5-light and 2-light (fire window) double chamfered mullioned windows to ground floor with continuous hoodmould. Two 4-light (each with 2 mullions removed) and one 1-light window to upper floor with flush chamfered mullions. The eaves line has been raised by 2 courses except at the left extreme where a diagonally set chimney shaft with stone cornice rises at the corner of the building. The other stack is an axial ridge one. Stone quoins, stone plinth and coped gable. Chamfered oak beams inside with large bressumer beam on moulded corbel.
