GODALMING MEADROW SU 9744 SW (north west side) 11/154 Nos 11 and 13 Llanaway Cottages GV II

Pair of cottages. 1875 for Miss C Hallam and Mrs C Birt; altered. Ground floor of purplish-red brick in English bond with red-brick dressings; 1st floor tile- hung with decorative bands of fish-scale tiles. Concrete tile roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays. In Vernacular Revival style, having wooden mullioned and transomed windows with casements and small-paned upper lights; 1st floor with battered base on wood-bracketed coping. Garden elevation: four 3-light windows to each floor, those to ground floor centre being C20 replacements (probably replacing oriels), those on 1st floor below hal-hipped gables. On ground-floor, stone plaque with date and name of patronesses. Half-hipped roof with 2 cross-ridge stacks with battered bases. Right return: 2 bays, that to right having diagonally-boarded door (to No 13) in chamfered surround with pent canopy on shaped wooden brackets and 2-light window above. Left return similar, but with small inserted window to 1st floor, left. Rear: 2 central bays project, having segmental-arched windows to ground floor, 2-light windows above, -hipped roof with stack, and back door to each cottage in return. From outer bays project WC and wash-kitchen ranges. One of 3 pairs of cottages built around'central garden.
