SADDLEWORTH CHURCH FIELDS SD 9906 Dobcross 9/42 No. 8 and - adjoining garages G.V. II Cottage, stables and carriage house. Early C19. Hammer- dressed stone, largely watershot, with graduated stone slate roof. 2-bay single-depth cottage with 2 storeys and C20 lean-to extension to left. The stable and carriage house extend to the right with first floor access at the rear. The cottage is gabled, has a square-cut door surround to left, a 3-light ground floor window and two 2-light first floor windows all with recessed flat-faced stone mullions. The stables etc. were added later and have a chamfered stable door with blocked overlight, a segmental keystone-arched carriage entry and a door with square-cut surround. The first floor has two 2-light windows (as above), blocked vents and 2 gables. All the gables have finials but two are damaged. The rear of the cottage has a blocked circular opening with stone dressings. Included for group value.
