GV II

Railway bridge over public road. 1847-8, for the East Lancashire Railway Company. Pierces railway embankment approximately 100m west of British Railways Viaduct. Coursed rock-faced sandstone with freestone dressings. A wide segmental-headed slightly skewed arch with stepped rusticated voussoirs, imposts carried through, and flanked by broad piers; with a plain frieze, chamfered cornice, coped parapet and sloped concave abutments. Forms group with viaduct, Ashfield Road (qv).
