BILDESTON CHURCH LANE 1.

5377 Church of St Mary Magdalene TL 9849 51/18 23.1.58.

I 2.

A C15 and C16 church which stands on high ground about mile to the west of the town. Built in flint and rubble with stone dressings. The west tower collapsed in 1975 and the nave has been temporarily repaired.

There is a good 2 storeyed south porch with flushwork. Above the entrance there is a small priests chamber which is open to the nave with a gallery, the doorway is ornamented with crowns and shields etc. The nave roof has alternating moulded and castellated tie beams and hammer beams. Graded for its historical value and architectural detail, mainly the roof and porch.
