In 1947, after a seven year break, Laing had resurrected their 'Area Outings' for staff and their families, with trips taking place in May and June. Twelve outings were arranged to take place in the early summer of 1956. This outing was for more than 250 Laing employees and their families from the south-west region, including Bristol, Warmley, Portishead, Taunton and Plymouth.
