Phase II of the Eastgate shopping centre was built by Laing's South Eastern Region for the Basildon Development Corporation, with work starting in April 1982. The development was a 10-storey block and a 5-storey block of office and shopping accommodation including an Allders department store at one end of a covered mall, a store for C&A and 70 shop units.
This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
