Description

The headquarters of Abbey Life were constructed of reinforced concrete and the design resembled a seaside pavilion, with blue-green reflective glass, balconies and railings. The topping out ceremony was held on 22nd June 1990. The building was officially opened a year later on 7th June 1991 by David Mellor MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury. The plaque unveiled in the floor of the atrium, which extended from the first floor to the full height of the four-storey building, was set into a 27 foot diameter floor-mounted illuminated clock.
