Description

This photograph is part of a batch showing work that Laing London carried out during the RADA Centenary Project. The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art building in Gower Street was being redeveloped in time for the academy's centenary in 2004. Work on the project included demolition of more than half of the building and rebuilding it to provide improved facilities. A new structure was built linking Gower Street and Malet Street, incorporating new theatres, rehearsal rooms, workshops and teaching spaces. The works were carried out in stages with Laing London working on the early stages and again in 1997 to rebuild the superstructure. The design for the project was carried out by Avery Associates Architects and structural engineers were Ove Arup and Partners.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
