Description

Sculpted by John Flaxman. Marble, free-standing statue commemorating Vice Admiral Horatio, Viscount Nelson (1758-1805). Admiral nelson stands upon a tall circular podium with his left arm resting on an anchor, which in turn sits on a coil of rope. At the base of the podium a female figure in a breastplate and helmet raises her left arm towards Nelson's figure, whilst as two boys look up at Nelson. On the other side of the base lies a lion. Inscribed here is also: "Copenhagen" "Nile" and "Trafalgar", three of Nelson's most famous naval battles.
