An effigy of Prince Edmund, Earl of Lancaster (1245-1296) lies in the centre of the monument, with his legs crossed and his head turned slightly to look over the right shoulder. At the base of the monument are statuettes of men and women with shields above them. Edmund is shown to a be a knight on horseback on the canopy of the monument.
The back of the photograph reads "Tomb of Edward Earl of Lancaster", but his could be a mistake. Edward was the brother of Edmund and is buried in the chapel of St Edward the Confessor.
