Description

The buildings, including the chapel, were originally designed as a hospital to care for the elderly and infirm seamen of the Royal Navy. The hospital was then closed in 1869 and the Royal Naval College moved into the site in 1873.

Since the college left Greenwich in 1998, the site has been known as Old Royal Naval College.

As the photograph is thought to have probably been taken in the 1870s, it is not known for certain whether it shows the chapel before or after the arrival of the Royal Naval College.
