Description

The buildings, including the chapel, were originally designed as a hospital to care for the elderly and infirm seamen of the Royal Navy. The hospital was then closed in 1869 and the Royal Naval College moved into the site in 1873. As the photograph is thought to have been taken between 1870 and 1880, it is not known for certain whether it shows the chapel before or after the arrival of the Royal Naval College.
