Description

The illustration shows the castle in a ruinous state. Underneath the view of the castle are the words 'To William Orde Esq, owner of this castle, this prospect is humbly inscribed by his obliged humble servants, S and N Buck'. Alongside this text is a coat of arms, perhaps of the Orde family, and next to it a text giving a history of the castle. This engraving is from the series known as 'Buck's Antiquities'; the brothers travelled around England between 1724 and 1738 creating these views of monuments. Although the original engraving is dated 1728, this reproduction appears to have been created much more recently, hence the long creation date range.
