Description

The section also shows the vertical shaft excavated down through the mound in 1776. The sheet has inset a copy of a sketched section of the mound by A D Passmore (1923) held at the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes and a copy of a plan by Smith (1862) showing the inner end of Blandford's excavated tunnel.
