Description

The Chapel of St Nicholas was built in around 1300 and was used as a chapel and later a church, before being altered to be used as a Wool Hall in the mid 16th century. In the mid 18th century it was used for staging plays, being renamed the New Theatre and then the Theatre Royal. In the mid 19th century it became the Music Hall and was used as a cinema from the early 20th century. The Music Hall Cinema was closed in 1961 and the building has subsequently become shops.
